Game Concept

The First Line is a short interactive narrative where you take the role of a new freelance writer struggling to meet a deadline. You only have a single night to complete your project, but there's a problem: you haven't even written a single line.

You'll be guided along by the three senses that are most important to any writer: Logic, Drama, and Whimsy. Good luck managing them as they get on each other's nerves all night long :D

  • Logic - Blue
  • Drama - Red
  • Whimsy - Yellow
  • Narration - White

To make choices, click one of the bold options presented at the bottom of the pages to advance to the next step. Back arrow at the top left to go back one step. Average play time ~5 to 15 minutes.

Developer Statement

Hi all, Slyscout here! I'm a recent graduate from film school looking to share some fun stories with anyone who's interested. I primarily focus on creating Fantasy and Drama projects across multiple mediums (novel, script, comic, game, ttrpg, etc.), and I have a backlog of stories that is honestly getting too large to count at this point ~_~

The First Line was a small project I made while in school while learning how to make interactive text-based games, so apologies if you encounter any bugs (though I'll say that my teacher thought it was good on the coding side). I am currently unsure about how frequently I'll be adding more projects or updates onto this site, but if people seem to like my work I'll do my best to provide some more. This game is and will remain free, but if you enjoy it and have the means to donate, it would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you get a bit of joy out of this silly idea I cobbled together in the span of a single sleepless night while fueled purely by espresso that isn't at all meant to be representative of my real life circumstances <3
